Transmission and maintenance of Motogen electric motor

Motogen electric motors in high powers and frame sizes are equipped with hooks for better transmission and without damage to the electric motor. These hooks are made and installed according to DIN 580 standard. If the hook is removed after installing the electric motor, the remaining hole should be covered with a suitable piece. Note that never use the end of the shaft to lift the motogen electric motor. Also, the motors should not be placed on the protective cover of the fan. As soon as you receive the Motogen electric motor, make sure its appearance is healthy. The electric motor should not have any broken, crushed or missing parts. The shaft of the electric motor should rotate easily and without any interruptions. For long-term storage, dry and clean places without vibration should be chosen.

Motogen engine safety and installation

Motogen electric motors are machines that work through induction and by connecting to the power grid source. These electric motors have a short circuit to the ground against static electricity. The installation location of the Motogen electric motor must have air flow, no dust and dry, and must be assembled in a flat and vibration-free place. Also, the ease of access to repair and modify the Motogen electric motor should be considered. In the case of using a belt coupling, make sure that the belt tension is properly adjusted. If the tension belt is tight, there is a possibility of damage to the bearing and shaft failure. Monetary volatility should be checked by a measuring device. If the money is flexible, the necessary corrections should be made on it. In gear drive mode, in order to avoid noise, without scratches and unexpected forces, the axes of the gears must be parallel. The surfaces of the ribs should be on the same plane and the tooth head of each rib should not touch the root of the ribs. The power transmission parts from the electric motor must be drawn into the electric motor shaft by increasing the heat due to their longer life. Under no circumstances should a hammer be used to avoid damage to the shaft, bearings and other components. Also, these parts must be dynamically balanced. Statistics show that 60% of engine damage occurs due to bearing defects.

It should be noted that a standard gland must be used to enter the electric cable into the terminal box, because the use of a suitable gland, while protecting the cable cover from damage, also prevents the penetration of harmful particles into the engine.

The base or foundation on which the motor is installed must be completely flat and make sure that the motor bases are in full contact with the base surface of the foundation before tightening the screws in order to avoid applying additional and unauthorized force to the bases. If a coupling is used to connect the motor shaft to the shaft of the moving device, it is absolutely necessary for the shafts to be parallel and must be strictly observed. In the case of coupling with a belt, at least 45% of the money’s circumference or 160 degrees out of 360 degrees of its circumference should be covered by the belt. The axis of the poles should be completely parallel and the surface of the poles should be on the same plane. The tension force of the belt should be adjusted in such a way that it can transfer the driving torque to the mobile with the highest efficiency. The tension of the belt should not be so much that it damages the bearings and other engine parts.

Insulation resistance

In case of long-term storage of the Motogen electric motor, the insulation resistance of the coils should be measured. In this process, the coils are exposed to a voltage of 500 volts direct electricity and the resistance is read after one minute (using a high range ohmmeter). The insulation resistance measured at 25°C winding temperature should be more than 10 megohms for a new electric motor. This value should be more than 1 megaohm for an electric motor that has worked for a long time. Otherwise, cables and terminals must be cleaned and dried. If the insulation resistance is still low, the coils should be dried using a heater or oven at 80°C. Also, the drying process is done by applying direct DC voltage and using a transformer with 10% rated voltage and 20% rated current. Insulation resistance should be checked again after cooling down the electric motor.

Starting the Motogen electric motor

The user is responsible for protecting the electric motor against overload. The electric motor must be connected to the power grid by a magnetic-thermal switch that protects against the increase in current. The current setting of the switch should not be more than 1.05 times the rated current of the electric motor.

In general, the protection of the electric motor against the load current depends on the continuous inspection of the temperature of the electric motor winding. Heat is caused by an increase in load and reasons such as a phase failure, a decrease or drop in cooling, an increase in the ambient temperature or altitude, and the frequency of switching on and off the electric motor. Protection can be achieved by installing thermistors inside the windings and connecting their ends to the thermistor relays. PTC thermistors are installed according to the standard in electric motors with a power of 18.5 kW and above.

Electric motors are started through soft starter in order to lower the current and starting torque. With this method, the voltage is stepped up to reach the rated value to avoid torque variations. Both current and time can be adjusted with soft start. The direction of rotation of the output shaft of the electric motor can be changed by changing the two ends of the network terminals. Electric motors are designed to rotate in both directions.

After mechanical and electrical installation, the following must be checked before use:

• The conditions of use must be exactly in accordance with the Motogen electric motor plate.
• The electric motor must be installed in such a way that the air flow is not blocked.
• The machine or coupling must be aligned.
• The shaft of the electric motor should be able to rotate freely by hand.
• The sealing resistance of electric motors that have been stored for a long time should be sufficient.
• All mechanical and electrical connections must be secured.
• Parts under tension and rotation must be secured against accidental contact.
• The direction of rotation must be controlled.
• The sound from bearings and brackets and vibration should be controlled by starting the electric motor under no-load conditions and at rated speed.
